Penance

Over the last two days, I did not have a spare minute -- literally -- to devote to decluttering. LAME. I have been running around making myself nuts over Hannah's birthday party, which was supposed to be a simple affair but, due to my desire to make everything myself, was somewhat less than simple. And while I'm glad I did it that way, it meant that I completely derailed this week's challenge. So, penance! I will knock out the remainder of the pantry, line the shelves in the bathroom, and tackle the heinous basement closet tomorrow while starting day one of...sound the trumpet...vegetarian week, which will begin tonight at 7 and end at exactly 7 pm on Saturday: the Bacon and Beer Party.

More later.

  1. I'm looking forward to hearing about your vegetarian week. I'm going vegetarian for Lent. Not like I'm all that Catholic these days, but I really want to make a challenge of making good meatless meals the other two beings under this roof will eat.

  3. Bring it on Jenny. I have some in mind for a couple of days but that's about it.

  4. Jen, that's a problem for me too. Peter's game for the most part, but AJ likes him some meat, so it's tough to make him happy with a lot of the standards. I could just throw a steak on top of whatever I make for him.

  5. Bryan likes to call himself "food agnostic" and will generally eat most things put in front of him (he's not a fan of offal, meat on the bone, and pork chops--yeah, I KNOW), so as long as I'm cooking, he will eat it (and will be very useful if I ever need to knock him off). Zack, on the other hand, is much more difficult, so I'll keep a supply of chicken nuggets for him.

I think the big thing is I'm not going to be making "diet food" and there will be plenty of eggs and dairy to make this a bit easier.

  6. Okay, number one:
Sautee mushrooms in olive oil, add garlic (loads of it) and fresh ground black pepper. Add fresh spinach, and then a very generous helping of pesto and some (or a lot of) cream. Simmer while pasta boils, grate parmesan over all of it. Meat eaters will enjoy crispy bacon on top.
